The Sequence (or Flow) Map is used to sequence and order information. It is a logical framework for organising information that occurs in a sequence or predetermined pattern. The image to the left shows a sequence map that describes and lays out the steps involved in making a peanut butter sandwich.
Classroom Practice[]
Science & Technology - Students could use a sequence map to describe the construction process used to create a particular product. They could also use this format show the steps involved in carrying out a fair test.
Writing - A sequence map can be used to illustrate to students the writing process, from forming intentions through drafting, editing, publishing and presenting.
Reading - A sequence map can be used to support the development of student's summarising skills. Students could use the format to map out events in a text in order to organize what they have read into a logical sequence.
Behaviour for Learning - A sequence map can be used to introduce a new or existing behaviour for learning plan to students. Displaying the plan in this format would make available a visually accessible reference and allow the students the opportunity to self monitor their behaviour while being aware of classroom expecatations.
